'Punk Is Not Dead,' An Editorial Shot By Byron Spencer
Punk is not dead. Or at least that’s what we’d like to believe. But work like what’s seen here keeps our faith alive. In this shoot, shot exclusively for Milk by Byron Spencer and styled by designer and artist Pauly Bonomelli, gorgeous kids inhabit a goth-like wonderland, a dream world where Marilyn Manson reigns supreme and eyeliner must extend past one’s temples. We can just imagine them all squatting in a rotting warehouse, albeit one filled with labels like Vetements, Dior, Raf Simons, Walter van Beirendonck, Chanel, and Givenchy. Perhaps they received a donation from a generous benefactor with a taste for French eccentricity and not taking showers.
Bonomelli is no stranger to well, danger. As the designer behind Ksubi Kustom, he transforms denim pieces into slashed up, hardcore designs, featuring airbrushing and rips and tears and burns (this Madonna tee is a fave). He also runs his own label, Hi Mum I’m Dead, which is by far the best name for a clothing line that we’ve ever heard. As he says, the clothes are part of a “corpse’s tryst.” We’re sold, and we’re not the only ones–A$AP Rocky, Rihanna, and Die Antwoord are noted fans.
